Prieto Conducts Shostakovich 7
Overview
As Leningrad came under siege in 1941, Dmitri Shostakovich retreated to an air raid shelter and — astoundingly — composed his Seventh Symphony. Marshaling a massive orchestra, he evokes the march rhythms of Nazi soldiers, citizens’ cries of anguish and, finally, a defiant victory hymn. Carlos Miguel Prieto, hailed for his “extraordinary ferocity and drive” (The Guardian), conducts this gripping score.
This program will also be performed at Wentz Concert Hall on Saturday, April 5.
