Civic Orchestra of Chicago

Founded more than a hundred years ago, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago prepares its members for multifaceted and meaningful careers in orchestral music and beyond. The prestigious ensemble is part of the Chicago Symphony Negaunee Music Institute and a pillar of the organization’s commitment to the future of classical music. Civic Orchestra members perform in an orchestral concert series, chamber music, workshops, masterclasses, mock auditions, school partnerships and other special projects. They are coached and mentored by Principal Conductor Ken-David Masur, CSO musicians and esteemed guest conductors. The ensemble performs free and low-cost concerts at Chicago Symphony Center and in neighborhood venues throughout the city, including Chicago Public Schools. The Civic Orchestra also anchors key Negaunee Music Institute programs such as the annual Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition and Chicago Youth in Music Festival.
